Sensors

Our sun sensing technology takes the guesswork out of knowing when you've had enough sun.

  • Simple colour change alert

  • Suitable for children and adults*

  • Non-toxic

  • Water resistant

  • Hypoallergenic medical grade adhesive

  • Designed and manufactured in Australia to ISO9001 standards

  • Independently tested to meet international guidelines as described in the 'International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection Statement on Protection of Workers Against Ultraviolet Radiation' (2010).

*Direct sun exposure is not recommended for infants under the age of 12 months when the UV index is 3 or above.

How the sensors work

To use the sensor peel one sensor from the two-piece slip. Apply the sensor to the back of your hand, making sure it's clean and dry before applying. If the UV Index is 3 or above it is recommended that you apply sunscreen over the sensor and over any exposed skin. Be sure to apply plenty of sunscreen, we generally don't apply enough! Also, remember to apply the sunscreen 20 minutes before you go out into the sun. Resources such as those on the Cancer Council website provide helpful advice regarding safe sun exposure. We recommend you use all sun safe measures such as using sunscreen, wearing protective clothing and seeking shade, after all you'll be better for it!

When you take the sensor out of the pack it will appear a violet/purple colour. The running figure may not be visible at all. As the sensor is exposed to UV radiation the running figure on the sensor will begin to change to blue. You have not yet reached your daily UV exposure but this is an opportunity to reapply sunscreen. With continued exposure to UV radiation the running figure will change to a dusty pink / brown colour. This is the signal that you have reached your daily UV exposure limit. You should avoid further exposure to the suns UV radiation.

Watch the video below to see how the sensor works under natural sun exposure.
